Radius is a sculptural seating commission that offers visitors a moment to pause and take in the view.

In 2021 James Tunnard Studio was commissioned by Surrey Hills Arts to create a sculptural work to add to the Inspiring Views collection of permanent artworks located along the North Downs trail.

The undulating form of Radius is inspired by the curves and slopes of the surrounding landscape and the radial symmetries of growth found in trees and other plant life. The curved seating area shelters visitors and orientates them towards the surrounding views that radiate out from the hillside.

Local poets and members of the public contributed Haiku poems inspired by the location and their personal connections to the landscape. The poems are engraved into the the oak battens that form the structure of Radius for visitors to enjoy.
